Gregor Hildebrandt (*1974) vio en casa de un amigo una foto de Will Steacy, fot\u00f3grafo estadounidense que hab\u00eda realizado una serie sobre las casas de empe\u00f1o en Estados Unidos. Esto le dio la idea de jugar con el significado y el sentido de la palabra casa de empe\u00f1os e imaginar una tienda en la que los peones estuvieran a la venta, desvinculados de su contexto l\u00fadico y, por tanto, como esculturas, por as\u00ed decirlo. Para ello, hizo que los peones se expusieran en una instalaci\u00f3n que llenaba las paredes, en hileras de estanter\u00edas espaciadas uniformemente. En este libro de artista, Gregor Hildebrandt explora muchas variaciones diferentes sobre el tema, es decir, las m\u00e1s diversas piezas de ajedrez y patrones de ajedrez en los lugares m\u00e1s diversos, en suelos y paredes, en prendas de vestir, como motivos para sus propias pinturas abstractas y como ornamentos en un cementerio de ultramar.
