A principios del siglo XX, la fotograf\u00eda norteamericana se consideraba pionera en el desarrollo del lenguaje visual art\u00edstico del medio. Sin embargo, este papel pionero volvi\u00f3 a ponerse en tela de juicio en la d\u00e9cada de 1980 debido a los acontecimientos en Europa, los j\u00f3venes artistas ya no reconoc\u00edan la fotograf\u00eda norteamericana como un modelo a seguir, por lo que fue perdiendo inter\u00e9s. TRUE PICTURES? pone ahora remedio a esta situaci\u00f3n y presenta a 30 fot\u00f3grafos estadounidenses y canadienses de tres generaciones que -a veces caracterizados por la llegada de la fotograf\u00eda digital- se vieron y se ven interpelados sobre todo por las convulsiones pol\u00edticas y sociales. La lista de temas no es ciertamente corta: las secuelas de la guerra de Vietnam, la crisis del sida, el racismo, el feminismo, las cuestiones de g\u00e9nero y sexualidad, las pol\u00edticas de identidad, etc. La urgencia de estos problemas lleva a los artistas a adoptar posturas narrativas y pol\u00edticas de gran carga.
