\"Better than de Kooning\", cela sonne comme une blague de g\u00e8ne rat\u00e9e, car \"personne ne peut peindre mieux que de Kooning\", et c'est pourtant un titre id\u00e9al pour une exposition de groupe. Au milieu des ann\u00e9es 1970, Peter Saul a peint une s\u00e9rie de tableaux de femmes qui se r\u00e9f\u00e8rent de mani\u00e8re parodique aux tableaux \"Woman\" (1950-53) de Willem de Koonig. Il imite m\u00e9ticuleusement les \"brush strokes\" et l'emp\u00e2tement dans un m\u00e9lange stylistique de pointillisme et de graffiti art, mais pousse les curseurs de couleur \u00e0 fondre la peinture expressionniste abstraite et les femmes elles-m\u00eames de mani\u00e8re \"daliesque\", comme de la glace molle (voir \u00e0 ce sujet l'article \"Un Autre Monde\" de Marcus Weber et \"Ice Creams, Atom Bomb, I-Screens, Data Bomb\" dans le livre d'Esther Leslie). En 2008, Saul a de nouveau peint une version de ces avatars en n\u00e9on, semblables \u00e0 des cartoons, et a intitul\u00e9 ce tableau : \"Better than de Kooning\" ... un relief de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 am\u00e9ricaine.<\/p>\n
