Les photographies de plantes de Paul Dobe sont longtemps tomb\u00e9es dans l'oubli, jusqu'\u00e0 ce qu'elles reviennent sur le devant de la sc\u00e8ne \u00e0 la suite d'une d\u00e9couverte fortuite li\u00e9e \u00e0 des recherches sur les \u00e9ditions Folkwang-Auriga. La responsabilit\u00e9 en incombe \u00e0 l'historien de l'art Rainer Stamm, qui a rassembl\u00e9 un ensemble partiellement photographique de travaux de Dobe et l'a mis \u00e0 disposition de la Photographische Sammlung\/SK Stiftung Kultur en tant que pr\u00eat permanent. Ce qui frappe particuli\u00e8rement dans les photos de Paul Dobe, c'est son approche syst\u00e9matique. A la mani\u00e8re d'un documentaire scientifique, il tourne autour de son sujet : le monde v\u00e9g\u00e9tal local, en d\u00e9duit des types et des principes de construction et est \u00e0 la recherche d'une loi de forme sous-jacente. On peut parler d'une comparaison s\u00e9rielle, ce qui rapproche l'approche de Paul Dobe de personnes pionni\u00e8res de l'histoire de l'art comme Karl Blossfeldt, August Sander et Bernd et Hilla Becher - toutes des positions centrales dans les collections de la Photographische Sammlung\/SK Stiftung Kultur.
