Avec son groupe d'\u0153uvres en aluminium, Olaf Metzel a non seulement r\u00e9introduit de mani\u00e8re surprenante et souveraine le th\u00e8me du relief dans les d\u00e9bats actuels, mais il se rattache aussi d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9ment \u00e0 ses propres travaux ant\u00e9rieurs, dans lesquels il avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9pingl\u00e9 ce genre particulier de l'histoire de l'art. Le pr\u00e9sent ouvrage retrace cet arc de mani\u00e8re tr\u00e8s claire, notamment gr\u00e2ce aux mat\u00e9riaux et aux textes de l'artiste reproduits pour la premi\u00e8re fois. L'ouvrage d\u00e9bute par la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre \u0153uvre \"T\u00fcrkenwohnung Abstand 12.000,- DM VB\", dans laquelle l'artiste annon\u00e7ait en 1982 \u00e0 Berlin la location d'un appartement dans lequel il avait lui-m\u00eame \"taill\u00e9 dans les murs\" et laiss\u00e9 une croix gamm\u00e9e dans la pi\u00e8ce centrale. La sculpture adoss\u00e9e en 1984 au mur du W\u00fcrttembergischer Kunstverein \u00e0 Stuttgart, une couronne fun\u00e9raire en b\u00e9ton surmont\u00e9e de l'inscription Stammheim grossi\u00e8rement peinte au pinceau, n'a pas non plus \u00e9t\u00e9 oubli\u00e9e et continue \u00e0 susciter l'indignation du public. Enfin, Olaf Metzel nous pr\u00e9sente \u00e9galement, avec ses derni\u00e8res \u0153uvres en aluminium, quelque chose comme le relief social de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 am\u00e9ricaine.<\/p>\n
