In the Future No One Will Be Famous

What happens at an exhibition when none of the participating artists are named? What happens when the curator remains anonymous? Or when the artworks themselves pose the question regarding authorship, or completely deny it, or liberate themselves from it? The book on the show at the Schirn in Frankfurt inducts one into the engrossed and engrossing world of the anonymous. Once you have let yourself in for it, then you suddenly see the world in a completely different light. The originators of the exhibition and the book maintain that »Anonymous exhibitions are absolutely necessary so that art can strike out along the path some of its earlier less materialistic exponents had already levelled in order to facilitate ideas emerging from form. Of course a sharp, critical mind is essential for this enterprise.« Anonymous art is replete with endless possibility, it forces one to take a walk through the dark park, leaves free choice to everyone, not only in terms of what they wear. Their credo states that nobody will be famous in the future. Anyone demanding copyright will no longer be regarded as the author of the work. The curator is, well, anonymous.
In the run-up to this exhibition there has been no small amount of controversy; several people suspect it to be an actual conspiracy behind against institutions, the art market and the financial interests of the artists.
The book is conceived in the form of a collector’s item and introduces the reader to research on the theme of »anonymous«, cataloguing some of the possibilities of »anonymous« and destined to become an staple of the »movement« in the future.
