Produktion. Made in Germany Drei

In summer of 2017, “Produktion. Made in Germany Drei” casted a look at the multifaceted and diverse art scene in Germany in the three art institutions Kestner Gesellschaft, Kunstverein Hannover and Sprengel Museum Hannover. The focus of the third edition of “Made in Germany” lies on the conditions under which art is produced in Germany and on the question of how geographical, political and institutional structures as well as new technologies create decisive preconditions for the making of art. With its concentration on current conditions of production, the show asks to what extent artistic production is redefining itself. In the five years since the last exhibition a post-digital generation has grown up which, with new networks, apps and DIY instructions, has thoroughly changed art. In an art landscape with a density of institutions (art academies, art colleges, Kunstvereine and museums) that remains internationally unique, the scene in Germany is one of the most agile places of production of this most recent art. Three central aspects, however, stand in the foreground of the exhibition and the book: 1. space in the sense of place of production, location and environment; 2. time in the sense of working process, narrative and speed; 3. the structure of production in the sense of cooperation and network. Ephemeral art forms and site-specific installations are booming; the artists create blogs, off-spaces and free spaces for every kind of activity. The expansion of their global mobility, their membership of various artists‘ groups and their participation in a demanding art market are aspects of a practice accelerated in many ways.
