How movement arises out of order! Andreas Karl Schulze is a painter, yet his works are not painting in the traditional sense. Imperceptibly, though, they draw part of their essence from it. In them, clear colours appear in the form of small squares, always of the same size, which are applied to the walls of the exhibition rooms. Their pattern is irregular, intuitively guided, and relies on concrete observation within a lengthy creative process. Thus movement arises out of order, and the emptiness and expanse of the space becomes the ground of a new creation. With regard to perception and reduction, Andreas Karl Schulze proves an ideal interlocutor for Josef Albers and his homage to the square. The wall works are flanked by sculptural works – colour modules applied to plywood panels and standing freely in the space. The catalogue documents the exhibition and, with an interview conducted by Heinz Liesbrock with Andreas Karl Schulze, leads into the heart of the work.
