In the Cosmos of Things: Rolf Glasmeier (1945–2003) was an artist, graphic designer and exhibition-maker who shaped the art scene of the Ruhr region from the 1960s onwards. After his training at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm he developed an internationally acclaimed style between geometric abstraction, serial structures and participation: his interactive sculptures invite the viewer to touch and to alter them. In the 1970s he turned to new materials and to themes such as mass consumption and recycling. His entire oeuvre is marked by humanist thinking and by the conviction that art can be a space in which society questions and changes itself. On the occasion of his retrospective at the Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen, this richly illustrated publication, with many historical photographs, honours the multimedia output of Rolf Glasmeier – from sculpture, photography and graphic art to actions in public space – throughout its entire development and examines it comprehensively in in-depth essays.
