Video installations and photographs from 20 years
Candice Breitz's artistic work focuses on the influence of family and society or communities that are formed on the basis of certain categories such as race, gender, nationality or religion, as well as the significance of the media for the emergence of new groupings and associations. The Kunstmuseum Bonn is dedicating a comprehensive solo exhibition to the South African-born, Berlin-based artist (*1972 in Johannesburg) with video installations and photographs from the last 25 years. Feminist issues form the focus of this presentation, which ranges from early works such as "Ghost Series" (1994), a photo series reflecting the ongoing violence of the apartheid regime, to more recent works such as "TLDR" (2017), a video installation created in collaboration with a group of South African sex workers. For the current, eponymous work "Labour", Candice Breitz accompanied births on film. In addition to exhibition documentation, the accompanying catalogue provides an overview of all works since 2010.
