A collection of American motifs

This year (2010), Cuny Janssen is presenting two very special, technically sophisticated books: "Turtle" and "Amami". After the Dutch photographer's first book was included by Martin Parr in his voluminous "The Photobook History: Volume II", they could quickly become coveted collector's items due to their limited edition (1,000 copies).
"My Grandma was a Turtle" is a collection of American motifs in particular, culminating in double-page prairie pictures featuring a considerable number of bison. Here, too, the artist combines landscape images with portraits of the inhabitants, but here she is less concerned with their juxtaposition; rather, the many individually hand-pasted photo reproductions lend the volume a unique format that could at best be compared to early photo albums or magazines for collectible pictures:
