In his new paintings, Daniel Richter remains true to his theme of outsiders and adventurers. At the centre is the figure of the Levantine old man from the mountain with the Assassins. This is the documented story of young Muslims in the early Middle Ages who were fed hashish in a parallel universe, half paradise, half brothel, as the will-less fulfilment assistants of an archaic sect leader, in order to then terrify the Islamic world as suicide bombers or terrorists after their intoxication. Daniel Richter's latest series with many large-format pictures is presented for the first time in this book, which was published on the occasion of its first presentation at the Kestnergesellschaft in Hanover. A spectacular oversize format guarantees optimal presentation. The volume is currently the only available publication on the artist's work.
