Frank Gerritz, born in Hamburg in 1964, is an artist whose thinking literally moves in space. Starting from the floor, his work spills over onto the wall and from there works its way back into the room. Among other things, the sculptor works on aluminium panels so densely with a paint stick (oil crayon) that their surfaces appear closed on the one hand, but the structure of the application remains visible on the other. Not all black is the same: where the silver anodised aluminium surfaces reflect the room, the dark areas of the surfaces reveal a shimmer, a remnant of light that changes depending on the viewpoint and lighting. The drawn surfaces - graphite pencil or paintstick on MDF panels or aluminium - develop a materiality that is characterised by blurred reflections and thus transform the surfaces of the two-dimensional image carriers into a spatial dimension. In addition, Gerritz casts iron blocks based on the dimensions of his body, the surfaces of which form the basis for his first prints on paper and define the proportions of his sculptural works in front of the wall. The catalogue shows the essential spatiality of the wall objects and sculptural groups, whereby the details of the works are also unfolded.
