Günther Förg at the Kunsthalle Bremen: Photography

The Kunsthalle Bremen dedicated a survey exhibition to Günther Förg's wide-ranging photographic work on modernist architecture with large-format works from 1982 to 2004. Günther Förg's exhibition at the Kunstverein Münster was the first time that the approximately 2 metres 40 by 1 metre 60 works reflecting the architecture of the space caused a great stir. The show in Bremen now included these as well as earlier portraits, self-portraits and works from Italy on the architecture of Guiseppe Terragni. In addition, there was the staircase of the Alte Pinakothek in Munich by Hans Döllgast as well as the staircases from Madrid and Athens and then, from 1986, the pictures of the Villa Wittgenstein. Also grouped together are the façades of Melnikov, façades from Tel Aviv and Hamburg's Speicherstadt from 1997 as well as photographs of Alvaro Siza's School of Journalism in Santiago de Compostella from 2003. The book, compiled entirely in sequence by the artist himself, mixes the cross-section of his work on display once again with such famous photographs as those of Villa Malaparte, Villa Tugenhat by Mies van der Rohe or Haus Lange in Krefeld.
