Filigree threads stretch from the white blossoms of a bouquet of flowers into the exhibition space, because in Heike Beyer's works, which are entirely dedicated to contemplation, "instead of vanitas, one immediately feels inviting friendliness", as Catrin Lorch writes on the occasion of the 2004 exhibition at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. The works are thus inscribed with their transience, but in a celebratory way, Catrin Lorch continues, because the artist decorates the rooms and halls of art rather than furnishing them. However, the works of the graduate of the Städelschule in Frankfurt, who was born in Siegen in 1967 and now lives in Cologne, are not solely focussed on the theme of decoration or the transience and deception of beautiful appearances; rather, she is interested in processual changes, the question of how forms change in decay, in fatigue, how memories fade, and in the end the question is: What remains?
