The revenge of minimalism

For five years now, the works of Jeppe Hein (born 1974 in Copenhagen, lives in Berlin) have been causing a stir, be it rolling benches and moving walls in the Museum Ludwig, Cologne, splashing water curtains in the Kokerei, Essen, at the Venice Biennale or, in a Berlin gallery, an unchecked iron ball that at best scrapes along the walls, but otherwise smashes them to pieces. For Niklas Maak and the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung" at the time, this was the "revenge of minimalism", as Hein subtly smuggled a liberating riot of happenings into the solidified boxes of the fin de siècle that had just passed, into minimalism that had become design. The artist's first monographic publication, published to accompany the exhibition at the Kunstverein Heilbronn, contains many double-page and full-page colour illustrations of the spectacular works as well as a complete list of all works created up to 2002 and descriptions of their functions.
