The new face of time

In contemporary art, especially photography, the portrait continues to be one of the most important and constantly reorganised pictorial contents. The aesthetic approaches range from the documentary to the staged, from the reformulation of iconographic pictorial traditions to the artistic exploration of aspects of amateur photography or abstraction as possible reflections on the subject. With this joint exhibition project, the Kunstmuseum Bonn and Die Photographische Sammlung/SK Stiftung Kultur in Cologne are approaching this complexity and topicality. And it can already be said: If 15 years ago a book like "How you look at it?" drew the definitive line under the question of how formally fine art and photography are related, and thus contributed to a tremendous revaluation of photography, then "Mit anderen Augen" provides a broad inventory and definitive confirmation of the now undisputed supremacy of photography in the artistic genre of the portrait!
