Sebastián Díaz Morales, born in 1975 in the Patagonian oil town of Comodoro Rivadavia, presents his book "Ficcionario" - the two words diccionario and ficción merge in the title - a kind of autopoietic sum of his work in images, texts and reports by participants. Since graduating from the Rijksakademie Van Beldende Kunsten in Amsterdam in 2001, the Argentinian film artist has been invited to exhibit at many major European and US institutions and has taken part in many important film and video festivals and numerous biennials around the world. As the motto of one of the chapters in his book, he deliberately invokes a quote from the great Argentinian national poet Jorge Luis Borges: "The mind was dreaming. The world was his dream." This particular view of reality, a fusion of poetic and realistic narrative styles, stands for the Latin American literature of fantastic realism as well as the docu-fictional style of South American cinema. Sebastián Díaz Morales brings these influences to bear in his film "Pasajes", for example, in which a man rushes from room to room, bringing together the most diverse worlds. His installation "Insight" goes a decisive step further and raises the question: In front of or behind the camera, is it all really just an illusion? This also applies to this book, which can be understood as an intelligent and entertaining journey for anyone who picks it up!
