No other artist of the 20th century enjoys as much public attention as Pablo Picasso, no other artist attracts as much attention to the formal and expressive power of his works, no other artist draws such crowds of visitors to museums. And since 1912 - since "Hommage à Picasso", the cubist Picasso portrait by Juan Gris - Pablo Picasso's work has been a challenge and an incentive for a multitude of artists. For generations, "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon" (1907) or "Guernica" (1937) have been reworked, resulting in the most diverse appropriations, regardless of the approaches the artists themselves have pursued to date. It is the seemingly inexhaustible imaginative power and range of Picasso's work that, between abstraction and figure, artistic creativity and politically intended statement, challenges artists to ever new and exciting dialogues. This voluminous book is published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name on the occasion of the reopening of the renovated Nordhalle, which marks the culmination of the 25th anniversary of the Deichtorhallen Hamburg.
