Anselm ReyleTeenage Wasteland

Anselm Reyle is one of the internationally most renowned German artists of his generation. Born in Tübingen and raised in Heilbronn, he has filled now the entire Kunsthalle Vogelmann with his work. The list of his exhibition venues reads like a who’s who of the art world: from the Kunsthalle Zürich to the Palazzo Grassi in Venice, from the Deichtorhallen Hamburg to the Kunsthalle Tübingen. His collaborations, for instance with Dior for an exclusive series of handbags, are legendary. Anselm Reyle mixes styles, colours and materials in astonishing ways, working with car paint, PVC and mirror foil, spray paint, LED lights, concrete or clay. Found objects as source material repeatedly play an outstanding role in his work, and these may be elements from the works of other artists just as much as everyday objects, architecture or design. Accordingly, reflection, appropriation, reformulation and new formulation determine his working method. Viewers find themselves caught up in the surprising beat of contrasting formal and material samplings, in which the entire pictorial repertoire of modern abstract invention is to be found. The book shows the expansive wall works created on site in Heilbronn, presents the latest series of works with paintings on sackcloth and also casts a retrospective glance at Anselm Reyle’s earlier output.
