About this book

As a sculptor, he works quickly, with millimetre precision, planning, and intense concentration.
As a photographer, Kanclerski becomes a wanderer.

With the journeys and research stays that are part of the SPRENGEL PRIZE, a new artistic perspective on different regions of Europe is always opened up. Sven-Julien Kanclerski is now the first since the reorientation of the SPRENGEL PRIZE to look towards Eastern Europe and explore Romania from his artistic viewpoint. Far from any tourist interests, he develops his very own perspective, which interestingly reveals an equally clear artistic profile as it paints a densely atmospheric picture. It is the side-plots, the peculiarities at the fringes, that no one actually sees and no one wants to see, yet they all reveal, on the one hand, the sculptor's gaze, who recognises forms and form correspondences everywhere, finds bizarre formal affinities in completely different objects, and in doing so, in a touching way, repeatedly uncovers the traces of human action in the seemingly coincidental.
