Questions on which the artist’s book by Bojan Sarcevic, developed in the format of a how-to guide, provides comprehensive information. A little patience is required if one wishes to understand the instructions, written in an onomatopoeically Eastern European English. But the explanatory drawings often quickly put one on the right track. Bojan Sarcevic, born in Belgrade in 1974, lives in Berlin today, after his parents’ early emigration from disintegrating Yugoslavia had first taken him to Paris, where he also studied. The choice of subjects and materials in his works is as varied and diverse as with scarcely any of his young colleagues; he cannot be pinned down to video, sculpture, installation or works on paper. There is always a hint of a catalogue of questions, perhaps also encouraged by the emigration, with which viewers find themselves confronted: Who am I? Where do I come from? Where am I going?
