The power of imagination that lies in the visualisation of natural processes has recently gained renewed relevance. The widespread debate as to whether we live primarily in a man-made environment is heightening our awareness of nature and the forces behind its phenomena, as well as the effects of our actions on the environment. The exhibition and book "The Forces Behind the Forms" - a title that goes back to the artist and geologist Per Kirkeby - are dedicated to the examination of matter and form processes in contemporary art. They bring together works that reflect on the processes of creation and the forces of form in nature, translate them into an artistic form and explore their relationship to human beings. What the artistic positions have in common is the interweaving of the urge to explore and the will to form. The artists develop a geology of our present in found objects and new conglomerates. They use geological history as a space for thought and imagination in order to explore our understanding of time and our relationship to a constantly changing environment, and they deal with the consequences of our dealings with nature, matter and thus ultimately with ourselves. Not without a humorous component, they play with a longing for wholeness, with the urge to want to understand the world, with reverence for creation and faith in one's own creative power.artists:
