Flurin BisigGestaltloses Verlangen

Flurin Bisig’s artistic approach is that of a seeker. With impressive openness he takes on the adventure that begins with a pencil on paper, then manifests itself in bricolages made of studio materials, but also finds form in wood, sheet metal and even marble. At the same time, interesting sculptural moments in the artist’s surroundings reveal themselves to the roving gaze of the attentive observer. They are an echo of his own work and at the same time provide fresh impulses. In Flurin Bisig’s case, the coexistence of these activities leads to far more than a mere differentiation of sculptural possibilities. From the very beginning he understood his work not in a modernist sense as the continuation of an artistic discourse, but as a reaction to and a condensation of the lifeworld – he therefore likes to liken his works to a song album from the history of rock, to a passage from a philosophical work or to a poem. Perhaps the work of Flurin Bisig is better approached from the outside than from within? Forms arise out of the situation, out of experience, and are not derived from laws immanent to art. Accordingly, the work to date appears correspondingly disparate in form, material and execution. Its inner coherence emerges from Flurin Bisig’s attitude towards the world, and not from some indispensable will to art. His sculptures are his form of expression, one that feeds on different sources, can take on various forms and leaves room for individual experience – including that of the viewer.
