Über dieses Buch

Gregor Schneider winner of the Ernst Franz Vogelmann Prize for Sculpture 2023

Gregor Schneider's artistic approach is characterised by never being able to escape spaces because they are socially and taboo-laden, because they have a psychological effect as well as a physical one. Gregor Schneider, born in Rheydt in 1969, suddenly became known to a broad public in 2001 with "Totes Haus u r" after the work was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale. Now, after Roman Signer, Franz Erhard Walther, Thomas Schütte, Richard Deacon and Ayșe Erkmen, he has been awarded the Ernst Franz Vogelmann Prize 2023 for Sculpture. The artist, who has been teaching at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf since 2016, "looks behind the façade of things and redefines the terms sculpture and installation along the way", was how the jury explained their choice. And indeed, his biographically based agenda forms the irritating starting point for his works, which allow visitors to become active participants.
