Günther Förg[Ohne Titel] 1976–2008

Günther Förg (1952–2013) is a great renewer of painting between modernism and the present, between Europe and America, between abstract, laconic Minimalism and sensitively gestural expression. The Kunstverein Reutlingen is showing a selection of his painterly work from the years 1976 to 2008 from the collection of Brunhilde and Günther Friedrichs: 100 paintings and works on paper from more than 30 years are being presented to the public as a coherent whole for the first time and offer an impressive insight into the equally risky and sensuous ventures of Günther Förg’s painting. The volume for the Kunstverein Reutlingen stands in the tradition of the numerous books Günther Förg published with Snoeck. The collaboration began with a Festschrift for his 50th birthday in 2002 (published in 2005) and continued in the following years with a whole series – eleven in all – of wonderful publications. After his death, an exhibition catalogue for the presentation of wall works at the Deichtorhallen followed in 2015. In the same year the volume “Förg. Wandmalerei | Wallpaintings 1978–2013” appeared, on which the artist had worked until the very end (see also our special page with all publications by Günther Förg).
