Filigree threads reach out from the white blossoms of a bouquet into the exhibition space, for in Heike Beyer’s works, wholly devoted to contemplation, „instead of vanitas one immediately senses an inviting friendliness“, as Catrin Lorch wrote on the occasion of the 2004 exhibition at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. Transience is thus inscribed into these works, yet in a celebratory manner, Catrin Lorch continues, for the artist adorns the rooms and halls of art rather than furnishing them. The works of this graduate of the Städelschule, Frankfurt, born in Siegen in 1967 and living today in Cologne, are, however, fixed neither on the theme of decoration alone nor on transience and the deception of beautiful appearance; her interest lies rather in processual change, in the question of how forms alter in decay, in fatigue, how memories fade, and at the end stands the question: what remains?
