Aïcha has experienced a lot: having come to France as an adopted child, she grew up there in difficult circumstances. Today she lives in Mallorca and has thrown herself into the adventure of painting with great determination. Her paintings are direct, undisguised - as far as the artist's biography is concerned, they are characterised by a deep authenticity that invites viewers to immerse themselves in her life circumstances. The figures in the large-format, recent paintings are life-size and seek a dialogue with us at eye level. Aïcha paints her story from her soul. In her pictorial world, she returns to her childhood and youth, masters the things of everyday life and orchestrates the little stories. And yet there is always something threatening in the background, almost a gloomy mood. The composition of the pictures has a classic effect, the interaction of the pictorial objects is formally conceived with complete mastery, the motifs communicate themselves immediately when viewed. Aïcha could have been an outstanding protagonist of Art Brut, but she paints in the here and now, so that her powerful visual language cannot be described as anything other than sensational.
