“High Life” “Job”! What might that be about? With “Cool” “Kiss,” by contrast, there is no limit to the associations. And “fact” “true” “fact” – who would not think of the biggest orange-maned tweeting machine of them all. The relationship between text and visual form is the central theme of the artist Natalie Czech, born in Neuss in 1976 and living in Berlin today. In her various series of photographic works she pursues the question of the dynamic interaction between text and image. Her most recent series is „Cigarette ends“, for which Natalie Czech has acquired numerous cigarette packets from the 1940s through to the 1970s with such resonant names as “fact,” “true” or “Kiss.” She arranges the smoked butts beside or beneath one another on backgrounds of various colours and photographs them. The names of the cigarettes, always visible on the bands, combine into minimalist poems. The small book brings the works produced so far in the series “Cigarette ends” to a good end – for they can be sent individually by post as consolation or encouragement.
