This is where Georg Imdahl sees the work of New York-based Nicole Eisenman (*1965) in his major review in the FAZ (22.11.21). It captivates through its committed observation of the human condition, its interest in socially relevant interactions and the precise observation of civilisational alienation processes. In her drawings, paintings and sculptures, the artist combines elements of popular visual media (political satire, comics) with traditional art-historical references to create a new unity. "Heads, Kisses, Fights" brings together works from all of Eisenman's creative periods. Against the backdrop of an artistic practice that draws on various stylistic and compositional elements of historical painting alongside pop-cultural set pieces, the exhibition and book combine Eisenman's art with works of classical modernism from the collections of the cooperating museums, thus creating a visual resonance space in which past and impending social upheavals take shape in their urgency, but also in their power to inspire hope.
