The book accompanying the exhibition at the SCHAUWERK in Sindelfingen offers a multi-faceted insight into the work of the Austrian artist Sabrina Haunsperg (*1980) and presents works from the past ten years as well as works fresh from the studio that are being shown in public for the first time. Sabrina Haunsperg creates colour-intensive, dynamic and mostly large-format paintings in a variety of techniques and materials. In doing so she attaches great importance to the use of high-quality paints, which she mixes according to traditional recipes. She applies the paint to the canvas with brush, pencil, spray gun or by pouring, committing her whole body to the task. In the interplay of careful planning and experimental curiosity, superimposed fields of colour, webs of colour and energy-charged explosions of colour arise in numerous layers. In keeping with the process of their making, the finished paintings captivate the viewer through the charged relationship between pictorial surface and pictorial depth. Immaterial spaces emerge that permit a wide range of associations. Sabrina Haunsperg studied painting at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 2001 to 2008, among others with Helmut Federle, and was a master student of Herbert Brandl; she lives and works in Düsseldorf.
