Now textiles again
Eva Berendes works with painting as a medium in order to broaden her field of production. She extends the medium to sculptures and public spaces. With this artistic methodology, she not only questions the means of image creation, but also skilfully manages to lead their basis into a dialogue with architecture, urban infrastructure or everyday objects. As in the case of this artist's book, she uses various fabrics, painted and untreated, which she then cuts and joins together by sewing them roughly or draping them over each other and fixing them with head pins. Such combinations by Eva Berendes were already on display in Bonn in front of the Kunstmuseum when she was awarded the Bonn Art Prize 2021 and staged her works like architectural fragments or façade parts in indoor and outdoor spaces. There is something fluid about them, even though they are solid materials. However, these can be subjected to a variety of transformations so that they can lose their sense of meaning and form - then the objects go flying!
