Biomorph

In the Great Workshop of Nature: For Hans Arp, nature was the measure of all things, the constant transformation of natural forms and their metamorphoses, or in Arp’s words: „We were looking for an elemental art that would heal humankind of the madness of the age.“ Hans Arp became the pioneer of organic abstraction and, particularly since the 1930s, his biomorphic sculptures have furthered a debate that continues to this day. Thus the works in this exhibition, all of which are reproduced in the book, not only show the rich holdings of Arp works at the Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck, but combine these with a survey of important contemporary positions such as are also collected at the Arp Museum, among them Angelika Arendt, Bonnie Collura, Tony Cragg, Louise Bourgeois, Jackie Brookner, Jáchym Fleig, Julie Hayward, Bodo Korsig, Gerhard Mantz, Maix Mayer, Wilhelm Mundt, Ernesto Neto, Thomas Rentmeister, Laurent Mignonneau & Christa Sommerer, venske & spänle, Luis Vidal or Birgitta Weimer.
