Colourful, loud, memorable and subtle, this is the monograph WORK, LIVE, BALANCE on the work of David Renggli presented here, which examines his artistic output from 2006 to 2020 – without laying claim to the completeness of a catalogue raisonné, yet with respect for the striking heterogeneity of this Swiss artist and musician’s work. The book offers a broad survey of the oeuvre and provides revealing impressions of the artist’s mischievously dandyish appearances. Are these to be understood merely as odes to hedonism? Not in the least! With his work David Renggli kisses awake the most diverse clichés of longing and notions of the idyllic, only to confront them with finesse with their own refractions. With a hearty wink he treats ideals of beauty and the cult of beauty with irony, and does not shrink from the hurdles of self-optimisation and egocentric self-infatuation. As a neo-Dadaist, David Renggli remains wholly committed throughout to the free play of art – and of music too: „My favorite instrument? Snare drum.“
