For the "cultivated" and yet "fanatical" football fan, the proof of God was already provided over 25 years ago in Italy with the "Gazzetta dello Sport", which has been published daily on pink newsprint for almost 120 years: "Maradonna = God" was one of the headlines when Argentina became world champions against Germany. It may have been snapshots like this that prompted Günther Förg to rework the basically cheap source material of the pink-printed newsprint. In 2006, four large-format (2.10 x 3 metres), six medium-sized (1 x 1 metre 50) and 64 small (53 x 76 cm each) acrylic works were created as a completed series, which overlay the newspaper columns in free forms. Grid motifs reinforce and hold the overlapping with the pink-coloured template, and Günther Förg thus sharpened one of his fantastic pictorial motifs in a completely new way.
