Exhibition catalogue, Kunstverein Reutlingen, edited by Christian Malycha
Text (German/English) by Christian Malycha
48 p. with 18 double-page colour illustrations
Format: 30 x 24 cm, softcover
Günther Förg (1952-2013) is a great innovator of painting between modernism and the present, between Europe and America, between abstract-laconic minimalism and sensitive gestural expression. The Kunstverein Reutlingen is showing a selection of his paintings from 1976 to 2008 from the collection of Brunhilde and Günther Friedrichs: 100 paintings and works on paper from over 30 years are being presented to the public for the first time as a coherent whole and provide an impressive insight into the equally risky and sensual ventures of Günther Förg's painting. The volume for the Kunstverein Reutlingen follows in the tradition of the numerous books that Günther Förg has published with Snoeck. The collaboration began with a commemorative publication for his 50th birthday in 2002 (published in 2005) and continued in the following years with a whole series of marvellous publications - eleven in total. After his death, an exhibition catalogue followed in 2015 for the presentation of wall works in the Deichtorhallen. In the same year, the volume "Förg. Wandmalerei | Wallpaintings 1978-2013", which the artist had been working on until the end, was published in the same year (see also our extra page with all publications on Günther Förg).
