Über dieses Buch

It is the opposite of Jeanne Faust

Film and photography are the media used by Jeanne Faust, who was born in 1968 and now lives in Hamburg. In her film language, she uses the moments of dramaturgical emptiness, the clichés of the strange and familiar that made her great role model Rainer Werner Fassbinder famous in the 1960s and 70s. Her photographic process, on the other hand, stages filmic situations, sometimes in shot and counter-shot variations, as they are known from classical still photography and as Jeff Wall, for example, shifted them into the documentary in his highly staged photography. Jeanne Faust's process of counter-shooting produces enchanting results, through which she is able to keep her work in a disconcerting state of suspension; viewers always expect and anticipate a continuation, but are left to their imagination for this. In addition to a first major solo presentation at the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, Vaduz (2002), Jeanne Faust's works have attracted particular attention in the exhibitions "New Heimat" (Frankfurter Kunstverein 2001) and "Manifesta 4" (Frankfurt 2002). The catalogue for the exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf (and the Kunstverein Heilbronn is the first individual publication and contains numerous large-format photographs as well as a complete filmography with short explanatory texts by the artist.
