Everyday migration in kitchen and garden at BUGA 2019 – For the Bundesgartenschau 2019, Silke Wagner (*1968) realised a project for public space entitled “Migration und Pflanze” (migration and plant). In Heilbronn the proportion of the population with a migration background is an exceptionally high 50%. 140 different nationalities live together in the city. For her project Silke Wagner tracked down plants that originally come from the countries migrants have come from and that have become native to Heilbronn. For this she developed a system of multicoloured printed films bearing the names of the plants as well as statistics on subjects such as labour migration, flight and so on. Bus and tram shelters along the axis between the railway station, the entrance to the BUGA grounds and the Kunstverein Heilbronn serve as the display for the presentation. The films she has designed are stuck onto the glass surfaces of the stops. Flyers explaining the project are available in many places. An app makes it possible to download information about the plants directly to a mobile phone, with statistics on their migration routes and on the route by which the plants came to Heilbronn. The book documents the campaign and provides deeper insights.
