Once again about the installation

Since the 1960s, the installation has developed into an essential genre of art. It confronts the public with a wealth of information and a multitude of simultaneous events that constantly challenge the capacity to absorb - an omnipresent situation in today's knowledge society. Classic art genres are hardly used in spatial installations anymore; they are mainly staged with everyday objects, ready-mades and new media. The audience finds itself in the middle of the work, all senses are addressed, and film, video, light, sound and smells in particular expand the usual aesthetic experience into a holistic experience. The inner density is continually produced by subjectively organising the numerous impressions and assembling them according to the situation. The use of new digital media has made installations even more complex. The clear separation between artwork and audience is dissolving in favour of multimedia spaces in which the world literally seems to be coming apart at the seams. The publication Welt aus den Fugen uses nine expansive installations by international contemporary artists of the younger generation to show how the current issues of climate change, artificial intelligence, crypto-evolution, ecology, identity politics and migration are being addressed today. With a glossary, the volume also offers a multi-layered overview of the key terminology.
