When Günther Förg's 50th birthday was celebrated, his friends, with Reiner Speck as the initiating editor, agreed on a book which, thanks to the contribution of 50 watercolours by Günther Förg himself, has become an artist's book. Whether it was with sensitivity, as Rudi Fuchs traces a watercolour, with a long breath of art history, as Siegfried Gohr takes on the window motif, in a cheerful underground manner, as Rudolf Schmitz intones a poem, or at a great narrative pace, as Johannes Gachnang leans out of the window on a warm summer night in Milan, there were always deep, friendly approaches based on great and penetrating expertise. The watercolours were almost cheerful, the first indications in Günther Förg's oeuvre that he knew how to assert himself between Eros and Thanatos when he dressed and undressed women as sleepers, bathers or posers with dabs of colour.
