Über dieses Buch

School of sight for children

For the first time, the Museum of Photography is opening its doors explicitly for children: around 160 works illustrate the uses, forms of design and expression of photography from its beginnings to the present day. Even artists such as Lyonel Feininger and Hannah Höch built a bridge between childhood and imaginative perception in some of their works. Accordingly, ten associative chapters in the book, which is aimed at children and young people (as well as their parents), offer a colourful wealth of images and stories. They touch on topics such as finding, collecting and telling pictures; reading numbers, letters or clouds; discoveries in everyday life, at school and when travelling; natural phenomena in town and country; family ties and/or portraits of automatons. Colour, light, mirror or material games come into play as well as puzzles, fun alternates with seriousness. A selection of prints, drawings and sculptural representations of objects complement the publication, which focuses on the concrete and sensual materiality of original photographs and aims to offer a school of seeing.
